Seems like its been awhile since I last wrote about my IPPT training. Truth is, I only skipped running for a week. But then again, if I only run once a week, skipping it once does seem like a big deal.
Anyway, I didn’t last week because I was hit by the flu virus that went around my office. For some of you who are wondering, “You workout all the time! Aren’t you supposed to have a strong immune system to fight off the virus?”. Well, you should know I was one of the last ones to catch the virus in the office. Which means the virus probably mutated several times and evolved into a virus much stronger than the original host before it hit me.
But it doesn’t matter now because I have recovered. It was a good thing I allowed myself ample time to rest and recover fully instead of forcing myself to train in my weakened state.
So I continued my HIIT training today with an increased intensity level from where I last left off. So heres what I ran today:
- Warm up set: 5 mins x 10 km/hr
- 1st working set: 1min x 13 km/hr
- Active recovery: 1min x 10 km/hr
- 2nd working set: 1min x 15 km/hr
- Active recovery: 1min x 10 km/hr
- 3rd working set: 1min x 15 km/hr
- Active recovery: 1min x 10 km/hr
- 4th working set: 1min x 15 km/hr
- Active recovery: 1min x 10 km/hr
- Last working set: 1min x 16 km/hr
16 km/hr is fastest the treadmill could go. I’d be honest with you. The workout today did get a bit intense especially for the last working set. In my next workout, if I’m still running in the same gym, I will try to do more sets on 16 km/hr and push myself a bit harder. I’m still a long way to go to my IPPT form.
As I was on my way home from the gym, I realised that I don’t really have a lot of time to train for my 2.4 run. I have to take my IPPT in the first week of August. This leaves me with less than 2 months. If I only run once a week, which leaves me with 7 running sessions only! In my current condition, I will never hit gold standard just running for 7 more times! So after next week, I will probably add one more running session and scale back one lifting session.
But first, I’ll have to find a gym with a better treadmill. One that allows me to run faster than 16 km/hr. I’ll keep you guys updated on how I go.
Meanwhile, let me know what you think and post a comment below.
